Club Captains

Each year at the beginning of the summer track and field season, Illawarra Blue Stars Athletic Club Inc will elect 2 club captains, one female and one male.  The captains must be aged 18 years or over.

The Management Committee will set dates for the opening and closing of nominations, the opening and closing of voting and the announcement of the elected captains.  There will be a minimum period of two weeks for both nominations and voting.

NOMINATIONS

After the nomination period has opened, nominations will be accepted until the closing date in the following way:

  1. By completing a nomination form that will be available on the club web site and at club track and field competition days held during the nomination period.  The nomination form will clearly show the closing date for nominations.

  2. The names of both the nominee and nominator are to be clearly shown on the nomination form.  Both are also required to sign and date the form.  A member cannot be nominated unless this is done correctly.

  3. All persons should be fully aware of the responsibilities of the role before accepting nomination nominated.  These will appear on club board as well as on the club web site.

After the closing date, a list of nominees will be placed on the club web site and notice board at club track and field competition days.

VOTING

All registered club members will be allowed to vote for either or both female and male captains by:

Completing ballot paper that will be available on the club web site and at club track and field competition days held during the voting period.  The ballot paper will clearly show the closing date for voting.

  1. The Management Committee will appoint two independent people to supervise the election.

  2. The club Registrar will provide a list of registered members to the two independent supervisors.

  3. Club members will place their ballot papers into a box provided by the independent supervisors.  At the same time, they will have their names marked off the list of registered members.

  4. If unable to attend on any of the nominated voting days, a registered member can give their ballot paper in a sealed envelope to another member of IBS to lodge on their behalf.  Their name must be clearly marked on the outside of the envelope.

  5. At the end of the voting period the independent supervisors will count the votes and the person receiving the highest number of votes for each position will become club captain.

  6. Once decided, the names of the elected club captains will be placed on the club web site and notice board at club track and field competition days.

  7. In the event of only one person standing for club captain by the close of nomination, that person will be elected to the position without voting taking place.  No other nominations will be taken after closing date.

  8. In the event of a tied vote, each member of the Management Committee will cast a secret vote to determine who of the tied candidates will be appointed.

CASUAL VACANCIES

In the event of a "casual vacancy" occurring i.e. someone standing down, the Management Committee will have the option of appointing someone to fill the vacancy.  When considering a replacement, the Management Committee can consider at the time whether the previous election runner up is suitable.
