Athletes Primed for Good Season

Our Club has commenced the summer season on a very positive note.  Our Masters’ athletes have led the way with some outstanding results recorded by Mary Thomas and John Lamb. Competing in Lyon, France they have come home with a bag of medals between them and they are to be congratulated on a fine achievement in such tough competition.

Gianna Mogentale has not only created history for the club, but history for the WMA who for the first time negotiated with the IAAF to have at least two events included in the World Open Track and Field championships, being the Women’s 50+ 400m and the Men’s 55+ 800m.  What a great tribute to some of the best female athletes in the world including Gianna to take their place in the Birds Nest in Beijing, China in front of a packed crowd.  It is indeed a wonderful achievement and one that Gianna will not forget in a hurry.  Our thanks go to WMA and Athletics Australia who made Gianna and the rest of the masters feel welcomed and part of the open team.  This is something that many of the other countries did not do for their masters athletes and it is with pride we say well done Athletics Australia

Whilst some of our masters have been touring, our school age athletes have recorded some wonderful performances at school meets and is a great indication they are going to have a wonderful season of track and filed.

We welcome family participation with open arms and this is one area of our club that we are very encouraging and proud of.  Don’t hesitate to come forward and ask if you can have a go.  Come along and join in with your son or daughter.  It doesn’t matter if you don’t think you can do it, give it a go and we will support you.  You don’t have to be a champion, just love of the sport and the willingness to take part.

Duel registration is another area that we promote and encourage and hope that many Little A’s athletes will join us on the path through senior athletics to further their careers in our sport.  Doesn’t matter what Little A’s you belong to, we encourage all between the ages of 11 and up.  You can obtain this information from the Registrar and Secretary.

Finally, have to say a big thank you for retiring President Sue Sundstrom who stepped down this year but will continue as Registrar of the Club and on the Committee.  Thanks Sue for a job well done and we encourage all members to support our new president Kevin Lee and the rest of the committee as much as possible as we strive to bring you a club of great members of all ages from 8 years to masters, good coaches, good competition and above all the friendship of one another and the path to move forward in your career of track and field as much as you choose to do so.
