Get Ready

ANSW FORUMS VERY HELPFUL

The club’s forums, conducted by Athletics NSW, has been a big plus to all clubs. The zoom meetings allow clubs not only from our area and Sydney, Newcastle, Central Coast etc, but also enables outlying clubs to come on board.  Via zoom enables the outlying clubs to not only hear what is happening within out sport but also to voice their opinion.  In this case, the zoom meetings have been very informative, useful and ensuring all clubs are kept up to date.

Athletics NSW are ready to go, they have outlined the summer season and it is only now awaiting for the Department of Health and the Premier to give the go ahead.

BE READY AND BE PREPARED

School students will be pleased to hear that the NSW All Schools have been pencilled in for the go ahead, pending restrictions.  For most school students, their own school carnivals leading into zone, regional and state have been cancelled so the NSW All Schools will enable our young junior athletes to take to the track.  Watch our website, ANSW website and also our Facebook page for entry and information.  Due to boarder closure at this stage, it is not sure if the Australian All Schools will take place, but this too, has been organised and are ready to go if boarders do open by December.

HOPING FOR OUR OPEN DAY

Illawarra Blue Stars are also ready to go.  Our opening day of Sunday 10 October has also been pencilled in and will be held on the Kerryn McCann Athletic Centre track commencing at 2.00 pm, with the first event to commence at 2.30 pm. Registrations will be taken, uniform orders, dual membership for little A’s athletes and the full program of the season will be available to all athletes. Round 1 will officially open our summer season of Track and Field and we encourage all our old members to be back on board and try and bring a friend to join up also.  New members are encouraged to become a Blue Star, regardless of age, ability, both male and female, with a strong emphasis on family membership.  This will all be dependent on:

A.      Approval for Beaton Park to open the track.

B.      Approval by State Health to open sport participation to go ahead.

C.       That our club is fully up to date with requirements put into place by State Health.

Blue Stars now have their own Covid safe sign in, so a very simple task when you come into the track, remember you will have to sign in at the Leisure Centre.

DATES FOR DIARY

Interclub Meet
This meet that proved so popular last season and has also been pencilled in with a date scheduled for Sunday 14 November.  The meet will be conducted around sprints/ short hurdles, middle distance, with one throw and one jump. This gives our own local athletes the opportunity of competing against other club members.  Athletes from all over the State competed last season and we hope this will continue again this season.

Illawarra Track Challenge 2022

What a meet this is and can we see Rohan Browning defend his 60m State title.  We sure hope so, and the date to pencil in is Saturday 15 January 2022.  There may be a few added events, but this will be decided in a few weeks’ time, which will add to this already popular and exciting meet.

NSW Country Titles

These titles have been pencilled in for the following weekend, 22 and 23 of January.  These dates have been set with the possible Friday also, but venue is yet to be decided.

So, everyone, pencil these dates in and you will be kept up to date on everything as we hopefully move forward to our sport being able to move along and see a summer of activity on the track.

Remaining in touch, keeping yourself in condition and ensuring you maintain your winter build up, leading into the summer season, is of main importance.  Summer is just around the corner and we hope that our set date of commencement will be maintained, and we can go ahead on the track.

All club coaches are available to speak to any athletes who need guidance and support at this time, so make sure you maintain contact with your coach, or if in need of a coach contact myself on 0409 307 325.
