Masters show the way

Meanwhile some of our masters were taking part in two major meets. Gianna Mogentale and John Lamb ventured over to Adelaide to contest the Australian Masters Games and came home with a bag of medals. Gianna won her age division over the 60m,100m,200m, long jump and triple jump, and then backed up for the Pentathlon, an event she is showing a lot of all-round ability. She withdrew from the 400m due to a bout of the flu, but her performances indicate she is on track for a good season. John Lamb had a great weekend also, breaking his age bracket 300m Australian record, and then backed up to win his 80m hurdles, and the 100m and 400m, to capture a great Games for these two masters’ athletes.

Mary Thomas had home town advantage when the Australian Masters Winter Throwing Championships were held at the Kerryn McCann Athletic Centre over the long weekend. Mary broke 8 Championship records and captured 4 State records and was named Female Thrower of the Meet. She captured wins in shot, discus, javelin, heavy weight, hammer, throws pentathlon, 56lb weight throw and 100lb weight throw and also the heavy weight pentathlon, giving her a fabulous all-round good weekend.
