Round 1 Winter Track Series Successfully Conducted
Round 1 of the Winter Track Series was held in challenging conditions, with wind and rain affecting the meet. Despite the weather, the event proved highly popular, with athletes appreciating the opportunity to test their progress during winter training.
Strong performances were recorded across all events, particularly given the conditions. It was encouraging to see new faces stepping up to the challenge—many using the sprint events as a warm-up before tackling the longer 1500 metres, where members of the Run Group took the honours.
The first Run Havoc $75 voucher for the Tuesday night meet was drawn from a barrel containing the names of all competitors. Congratulations to sprinter Gianna Mogentale (Blue Stars), who was the lucky winner and expressed her thanks to Run Havoc for the generous prize.
Round 1: Winter Track & Field Series – Sunday 31 May
The first round of the eight-meet Winter Track & Field Series was successfully completed on Sunday 31 May. The event was warmly received, with a strong turnout and excellent competition throughout the morning.
Athletes from Campbelltown made a significant impact, particularly in the throwing events of shot put and hammer throw. Their presence helped elevate the level of competition for club members, while also adding variety and depth to the program.
It was also great to see athletes from outside clubs taking advantage of the winter series as preparation for school carnivals and international competition. Clubs represented included Blue Mountains, Port Hacking, Sutherland, UTS Norths, Trinity, along with strong local participation.
A highlight of the day was a thrilling 80m hurdles showdown between world-class masters’ athletes Lenore Lambert and John Lamb. Despite giving away 20 years to his competitor, Lamb put in a strong performance, but it was Lenore Lambert who took the honours with an Australian record-class time. The event drew significant attention, with even the shot put competitors pausing to watch this impressive display of hurdling excellence.
Among the rising talents, nine-year-old Charlotte O’Leary (Port Hacking) was outstanding, delivering excellent performances in both the 60m and 150m sprints. She was also the delighted winner of the Run Havoc $75 voucher, and this young “pocket rocket” is already eager to return for the next round.
