Bring on All Schools

The summer season of track and field has commenced for Illawarra Blue Stars and once again junior athletes have commenced with a bang.  Bring on the NSW All Schools next Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, as it is here that the junior Secondary School athletes mix and put their talents up against one another.  Blue Stars juniors continued on their winning way and on the back of the Combined High Schools success, members who attended the CCC Championships (Combined Catholic Colleges) last week, kept the winning streak going.  Newcomer to Illawarra Blue Stars, Grace Shaw impressed with a great win in the girls 15 years high jump with a leap of 1.64m, showing she has the talent to go a long way especially in her chosen event.  She also is a very capable long jumper/sprinter and will have her first full season with IBS this year.  Sisters Grace and Ashlyn Adams continued on their winning way with Ashlyn taking out her age bracket over the 90m hurdles and older sister Grace finishing a great 2nd in her age over the 100m hurdles.  Both girls finished in the top 8 of the 100m and 200m, a great effort against some classy junior women sprinters.  Brodie Masters was a surprise, and to bring home the bronze medal in his age bracket for the javelin was a great reward for this young man.  He is a talent in this event and along with the track events he contests, will once again compete for both Dapto Little A’s and Blue Stars as a dual registered athlete.

And now we head to Homebush once again, and over a 4 day meet, (Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday) we will see some of the best junior talent in NSW up against one another.  In one of the biggest meets Athletics NSW delivers, it is certainly going to be a great meet, with talent galore in the junior ranks in NSW vying for spots in the NSW team to contest the Australian All Schools later in December.  Our own IBS Athletes will certainly be up there with them and we wish them all the best and on the back of the CCC and combined high Schools, they will certainly be a challenge to their opposition.
