TRACK SEASON

Illawarra Blue Stars is open for business and the summer track and field season has presented not only huge changes but also a huge amount of additional admin. Our season has not. It’s not easy but like years before our club is here to offer a service in track and field and in the winter, the winter program.  We will make the changes, and still provide a club that thrives on assisting our members.

POINT SCORE COMMENCES

Our Sunday afternoon competition is down in numbers, but we believe there are many factors behind this.  Members not registering till later in the season is one, and that has been of past before. Our junior base is not what it was or should be, but the changes by ANSW has forced this upon us.  We now have a solution, and we welcome all ages, from 8 to 80 and we have a pathway for you all.

HELPERS: WE NEED PEOPLE TO HELP EACH WEEK

The first week of November on the Sunday meet saw a number of people put their hands up and came in that little bit earlier to help with equipment. Let’s keep this up so one or two are not doing each week.  A couple of our usual people have ill parents which have restricted them so now is the time to step up and help out where needed.

BOARD ROOM SNIPPETS

Our club is conducted by our Board which consists of the Executive and Committee - see committee members on the website. Each month we will give you little snippets the Board has discussed to deliver the service to you in the best possible manner.

At the October meeting we saw the Board decide to:

a.        Send out a survey to all members seeking their input into the Sunday competition the club conducts. You may have some very constructive thoughts that we haven’t heard before. Now is the time - so when you get the survey, complete and return it - your input is invaluable to us.

b.        That the Sunday competition now offer the under 20, Open and Masters athletes two throws each round.  This is to enable throwers to complete on a level playing field with the track athletes as far as point score is all about.

c.        Support to our younger athletes and encourage them to our club and give them the same opportunities as our older athletes and support our members to take part in Zone titles if they wish to move forward towards State titles.

PEOPLE CARE

Every so often we are going to give away a few packs of goodies to both athletes and officials who have performed well, presented well, and have taken part in the true spirit of the sport.

Our first receivers were Loris Livieri who ran close to his 100 metres PB, looks great in his club singlet and is always willing to help. Pearl our new under 16 athlete also took out the “pack” by going in everything for the first time and seeing what she could do. Well done.

Our second round prizes went to officials Kevin and Sally who were going from one event to another without any hassle and athletes Corey who competed and moved equipment around at the same time, whilst sprinter Sarah recorded one of her best times for her sprints.

Another sponsor’s round will take place on round 2 and 3 of next month. Well done.

OPENING AT TRELOAR

Cameron Chisolm opened up his campaign at Round 1 of Treloar Shield, with Rohan Laurendrett putting out a warning to the States open 400metres when he ran a PB over this distance.

Lauren Percival, Brodie McCluskey and Suvi Flores-Quirk opened their sprint season with impressive runs at the Velocity meet at Illawong, all showing good early season form.

June Lowe is off to Pan Pacs for the masters and is happy with her form at this time whilst former sprinter Ryhys Barnes has tackled his first half marathon at Huskinson and recorded a sub 2hr, a time he set himself to do.
