Throws & Runners perform well over long weekend

Blue Stars members took advantage of the long weekend to contest other events and the results have been very strong.  Masters champion throwers took the opportunity of contesting the Australian Masters Throws titles, and both Mary Thomas and June Lowe came out winners. Conducted for the first time on local ground, over the 3 days of the long weekend at the Kerryn McCann Athletic Centre, throwers came from interstate and metro clubs to contest this different event.  Mary took out 1st in her age bracket in the individual shot, discus, javelin, hammer and weight throw, and then backed this up with a win in the Throws Pentathlon and also the Heavy Weight Penthalon.  June Lowe took out individual 1sts in shot, discus, javelin and hammer and was placed 2nd in the weight throw.  She also captured 1st in the Throws Pentathlon.  She did not contest the Heavy weight title.  Well done Aussie Champs on great results.

Middle/long distance athletes took to the highway and travelled to the Goulburn Fun Run, and also came home with good results.  Geoff Hynoski took out 5th overall in the open 5km in a good time of 21.04 mins whilst Ian Smith had a strong run also after suffering from a week with flu.  He finished in 48th spot in a time of 32.57mins, whilst Jessica Hogg surprised in the same event, finishing in 16th spot in 25.42 mins.

Younger athletes took to the 2km with Charlotte Smith finishing in 2nd spot in 9.44mins, brother Joshua in 12th spot in a time of 10.32mins and Ashleigh Hogg running the 2km in 11.50mins. Great representation and great results from members in both events.  Now back to the track for the open meet next Sunday at 2.00 pm at the Kerryn McCann Athletic Centre with Round 2 events to be conducted.
