Using Winter Meet for Preparation

In blustery, windy conditions, Illawarra Blue Stars held the one and only winter track and field meet last Sunday at Kerryn McCann Athletic Centre. Athletes not only took on their opposition but took on mother nature as winds swept across the local track. The athletes who attended admitted they used this meet to help prepare them for the upcoming summer season to commence, hopefully in September.

Senior female athlete Jessica Hogg was a happy girl when she recorded a personal best over the 1km distance, showing that her winter build up will be of great benefit to her this coming summer season.

Male open athlete, Cameron Chisolm also used the winter meet to guide how he is going on the track leading into summer. Chisolm looked comfortable and relaxed and showed his very fluent style as he took out A division 300m from Tim Martin and female sprinters Emma Mathews and Sarah Devries. Jonti Faulkner won Division A over the 60m from Martin and Sarah Devries, and then backed up to take out the division A 150m again from Tim Marin and Emma Matthews.

Under 12 athlete Imogen Anderson took out Division C of the 150m, and then backed this up with a strong run in both the 300m Division C and finishing well in the open 1km.

Field events conducted were the shot and long jump, and once again the wind played havoc with all athletes with Mark Mathews the winner of Division A from Andrew Rodda and Mary Thomas, whilst Division B was won by Rebecca Anderson from Imogen Anderson and Chelsey Hall.

Andrew Rodda showed his sprint talent taking out Division B of the 60m and also the 150m and the 300m, whilst Tim Martin took the Division A long jump from Sarah De Vries and Sarah Guevara.
