What we have to look forward to in the second part of the season

The Illawarra Track Challenge is on again - Saturday 12 January at the Kerryn McCann Athletic Centre.  And this time, a first for the area, ANSW have now included a State title for U14, U16, U18, for both male and female. This event will be added to the under 20 and Open.

Our area has some fine sprinters and would not be surprised to see a number of them against the medal winners in the newly created junior sections. The Open Men’s title over 60m, sponsored by Kirrawee Prestige Smash Repairs and the Open women’s sponsored by Kings Track and field, is expected to draw great fields ,and again we are hoping for tight finishes over this short distance.

The mile for both men and women will also be a State title event for Open, U20 and 35 plus, and after the epic mile last year, we expect to see similar races. Sponsored by Bing Lee, the Mile brings together some of the leading middle distance runners in the State, and was a highlight of last year’s event. The meet will be supported by the Masters 60m in 5 year age brackets open to all registered masters’ men and women, but the classic supporting events are again expected to draw good quality fields with the pole vault now added to the program.
