The club also held the first round of the Winter Track and Field Series for May and good to see quite a few athletes taking advantage of these meets to prepare for the summer season, and school carnivals. Next round will be held on the 4th Sunday of June with a variety of events to be conducted. See club’s website for events. Rebecca dos Santos and relay partner Andrew Lau caused an upset by taking out the first 2 x 1km track race, both athletes putting in good performances over the 1km distance. They defeated a team of Vincent and Morgan, with Andrew Rodda and Corey Hogg finishing in third. Fast finishing Jess Hogg and Geoff Hynoski could not bridge the gap for their team, but both athletes running very good splits over the 1km distance.
Meanwhile Female Sprinter of the Year For IBS, Grace Adams and sister Ashlyn have had tremendous runs over the hurdles, with Grace already recording a qualifying time for nationals of 2018/2019, and Ashlyn only .15 off the mark for her event. Both athletes will head to Canada for a great sports tour that will give them extra competition and experience.
School track carnivals are also under way and some good results have been flooding in with Natasha Hynoski breaking a long standing record for girls 16 years 100m at Figtree High School. From school carnivals athletes will move onto the zone championships and then onto regional, and hopefully onto state.
